Lakeland Florida – Celebrate Seniors at “First Friday”

The Downtown Lakeland Partnership hosts every month on the First Friday of each month a free event at Munn Park. January’s theme is “Celebrate Seniors”; this celebration is on January 2nd, 2009 inviting seniors and their families for a fun evening filled with arts, classic car shows, music and entertainment along the streets surrounding the lovely “Munn Park”.

Why “Celebrate Seniors”? To me, seniors today are yesterday’s groundbreakers – who were the teachers who taught my children, the doctors who delivered my children, the carpenters who built my home, police, firefighters, lawyers, plumbers, entrepreneurs and service members of the military – they are your fathers, mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers – the backbone of your family truly deserving to be honored on this special day.

Remember this is a family celebration – an event filled for the whole family to enjoy.

Lakeland’s First Friday free event starts at 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Senior service organizations with info about their groups will be at Munn Park as well as shops and restaurants will stay open late for your convenience.

Lakeland Florida First Friday – Holiday Happenings

Are you in the Holiday Spirit yet? Throughout this year on the first Friday of every month and Friday, December 5th, 2008 the Downtown Lakeland Partnership prides itself of hosting and organizing First Friday. This monthly celebration offers a different theme each month. This family celebration of the “Dog Days of Summer“, “Back to School“, and “Art Walk” were very successful.

Opening the local newspaper or looking online for things to do in Lakeland throughout the year, I’m so impressed by Lakeland and its communities coming together and provide programs such as First Friday, Mayfaire-by-the-Lake, Lake Mirror Classic Car Show, Annual Christmas Parade or the Annual Snowfest on Saturday December 6th at the Lake Mirror Complex, just to name a few, for folks like you and me.

This month First Friday theme in Lakeland is “Holiday Happenings”. Downtown Lakeland will give shoppers the opportunity to stroll around Munn Park with its beautiful Christmas Décor while shopping and dining for gifts at various local specialty stores to find a special gift for that special someone. The Lakeland Police Department is hosting pet friendly Santa with photos. Christmas carols, entertainment and activities will surely fill your evening plans.

Hopefully the slide show below brings you in the Holiday Spirit – Enjoy the pictures!

Don’t miss the Classic Car Show on Tennessee Avenue!

The free event is December 5th and starts at 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Lakeland Florida – First Friday’s Theme is Art Walk

The Downtown Lakeland Partnership prides itself of hosting and organizing First Friday. This monthly celebration offers a different theme each month. This family celebration of the “Dog Days of Summer” and “Back to School” were great success.

This month First Friday theme in Lakeland is “Art Walk”. I’m always impressed of what Lakeland has to offer with the art exhibits. I’ve visited various exhibits, such as the memorable Butterfly Exhibit in Munn Park and the Swan exhibit throughout Lakeland, which was well received within this community and I’m anxious to see another great art exhibit featuring sculptures. You be able to vote for your favorite sculptures displayed along Lemon Street Promenade. An opening reception for “Oncology on Canvas”, an exhibit of international art created by cancer patients, their families and health care providers, was announced by The Watson Clinic Foundation, Arts in Medicine and J. Rowan Galleries, Inc. Art Galleries throughout Downtown Lakeland will have art reception.

Students from the Harrison School for the Arts will be performing in Munn Park, as well as performances from local artists bringing entertainment for the entire family along the streets. As always, during Lakeland’s First Friday, shops and restaurants stay open late. Are you a classic car show fanatic – then you’ll have plenty to see along Tennessee Avenue?

Newsflash – Update! Students from the Harrison School for the Arts have been rehearsing everyday for the upcoming Musical Theater performance “Pirates of Penzance this month. They will showcase their talents with a sneak preview at 6:30 p.m. 7:15 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The free event is October 3rd and starts at 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Lakeland Florida – First Friday “Back to School”

Did you miss last month First Friday “Dog Days of Summer”? I had so much fun taking my grandkids to this fun-filled entertainment of music, shows, Lakeland’s K-9 police demo, and of course all the beautiful dogs. We enjoyed dinner at Crispers – perfectly created summer salad, awesome sandwich and great tasting soup and their kids meals are always a favorite with my grandson. We’ve listened to live music while eating and then made our way across to Munn Park to see the classic car show, did a little bit of shopping and watched the dogs happily wagging their tails. Check out the pictures and video of the K-9 police demo!

Wish you could own one of these beautiful classics?

Absolutely great time for the whole family
